Special art programme to mark 100th birth anniversary of celebrated composer Van Cao

ABO/NDO- A special art programme will be staged at the Hanoi Opera House on August 20 to mark the 100th birth anniversary of celebrated musician Van Cao, the composer of Vietnam’s national anthem.

The programme has been co-organised by the Party Central Commission of Communication and Education; the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations; Vietnam Television; and the Vietnam Musicians’ Association.

Speaking at a press conference held in Hanoi on August 3, Chairman of Vietnam Musicians’ Association Duc Trinh said that the programme will entertain the audience with more than 20 prominent songs by Van Cao, such as ‘My Village’, ‘The First Spring’, ‘The Marching Song’, ‘Heading to Hanoi’, and ‘Vietnamese Soldiers’.

The event will feature the participation of more than 300 artists, singers, and members from the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO), the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet’s Choir, the Military Ceremonial Troupe, and the Military University of Culture and Arts’ Orchestra.

Composer Van Cao (1923-1995) made great contributions to the development of music in Vietnam. He is known for many popular songs in various genres including love songs, marching song, and epics.

He was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order, the first class Independence Order, and the Ho Chi Minh Awards of Literature and Arts, along with many other accolades.
