ABO/NDO- An international conference entitled ‘Resources for policy communication’ opened at the Academy of Journalism and Communication (AJC) in Hanoi on November 1.

Co-organised by the Communist Review, the AJC, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the event attracted the participation of experts from the Korea Media Promotion Foundation and Korea University.

In his speech, Associate Professor, PhD. Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Review, said that press agencies are the main force in policy communication.

The press helps people receive policy information and participate in the process of planning and discussing policies, thus promoting the motto of placing people at the centre in policy communication, he explained.

Meanwhile, Director of KOICA Vietnam Lee Byung Hwa revealed that since 2016, KOICA Vietnam has supported the AJC in improving the capacity of implementing the Government's policies by providing training programmes in the Republic of Korea.

For his part, Associate Professor, PhD. Pham Minh Son, Director of AJC, said that in the current boom of digital media and information, it is necessary to train professional journalists and those working in policy communication.

He stressed that training and improving the capacity of the policy communication team is one of the important solutions to strengthen policy communication.

In addition to equipping themselves with a political, economic, and social knowledge background, journalists and policy communicators must learn from international models and experiences, he emphasised.

The conference included an opening session and two discussion sessions featuring eight reports presented by Vietnamese and Korean experts.

The first session reviewed the current investment, mobilisation, and use of resources for policy communication, while the second one focused on experiences, initiatives, and solutions to ensure resources for press and policy communication agencies.
