Seminar discusses management of cleft lip-palate and congenital maxillofacial deformities

ABO/NDO- An international seminar on the comprehensive management of cleft lip-palate and congenital maxillofacial deformities was held in Hanoi on November 22.

Speaking at the event, Doctor Cao Duc Chinh, Director of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital, said cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common birth defects.

He reported that over the past three decades, the hospital has cooperated with Operation Smile Vietnam and donors to bring smiles to children with lip and palate deformities.

Accordingly, the hospital has performed surgeries and treatment for more than 16,000 patients with lip and palate deformities across the country.

The event, jointly held by the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Hospital and Operation Smile Vietnam attracted the participation of leading oral and maxillofacial surgery experts from Vietnam and Taiwan (China).

It aimed to provide a venue for participants to exchange experiences and get updated on the latest technologies and applications in maxillofacial deformities.

At the seminar, delegates discussed nasal alveolar moulding (NAM) therapy, the preferred pre-surgical treatment for cleft lip and cleft palate, and labial surgery techniques.
