Ministry of Health receives additional 500,000 doses of measles vaccine

ABO/NDO- On April 22, the Ministry of Health received 500,000 doses of measles vaccine to support vaccination efforts throughout the country.

Following the World Health Organisation’s warning about the risk of a measles outbreak in Vietnam and the actual development of the disease, vaccination has been identified as the most effective prevention measure.

In late 2024 and early 2025, the Ministry of Health organised two measles vaccination campaigns, initially targeting children aged 1 to 10 years and high-risk groups, later expanding to include children aged 6 to 9 months in at-risk areas where measles cases or outbreaks were occurring.

Last March, the Prime Minister issued a directive calling for the acceleration of measles vaccination.
Following the Prime Minister’s instructions, the Ministry of Health launched the second phase of the 2025 campaign, achieving 96.4% coverage, continuing to target children aged 6 to 9 months and children aged 1 to 10 years.

As a result of these measles vaccination campaigns, compared to the first three months of 2025, the measles infection rate has begun to decrease by 6% in the 1 to 10 age group (which accounts for 61.4% of cases) and decreased slightly (0.4%) in the under-1 age group.

The vaccine used in this vaccination campaign consists of 500,000 doses sponsored by the FPT Group.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong stated that the goal of the third phase of the 2025 measles vaccination campaign is to ensure that 95% of children who have not been vaccinated or have not received the full dose of the measles-containing vaccine receive one dose of the measles-containing vaccine.
