Vu Lan Festival 2025 to honour ancestors and national gratitude
ABO/NDO- The Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha held a press conference on June 3 to announce the 2025 edition of the annual programme Vu Lan Festival set to take place from June to September 2025.
Embracing the spirit “filial piety is the heart of the Buddha”, the programme is a heartfelt tribute to ancestors and fallen heroes, emphasising national gratitude and traditional family values.
The programme commemorates key national milestones: the 78th anniversary of the Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27), the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, and the 80th anniversary of the Viet Nam’s National Day (September 2).

Highlighting the spirit of “when drinking water, remember its source,” the programme includes memorial events, charity work, youth engagement activities such as school supply donations in the Northwest and the online contest promoting filial piety.
A key event will be the Vu Lan art and cultural night “Filial Devotion and the Sacred Soul of the Nation,” held on August 30 at the Ha Noi Friendship Cultural Palace. It will feature monks and nuns sharing stories of Buddhist contributions to Viet Nam’s liberation.
Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang stressed that Vu Lan is not only a religious ceremony but a reminder of our gratitude to parents, the nation, and all beings—a message especially vital in today’s society.
The programme will be broadcast on national, local, and Buddhist TV channels, and across digital platforms to spread the humanistic values of filial devotion.
