The event is expected to attract around 200 delegates from 10 ASEAN nations, China, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan and high-level officials of the ASEAN, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Population Fund.
Under the theme “Better health for ASEAN Community after 2015", the 12th AHMM will focus on discussing and seeking measures to address prominent medical issues in the region and enhance cooperation with the partners in order to protect and improve people’s health.
Plenary sessions in the framework of ASEAN+3 (China, the RoK and China) and ASEAN+1 (China) will focus on improving primary health in prevention against non-communicable diseases and multi-sectoral cooperation in prevention against new emerging infectious diseases.
The event also has four sideline meetings with development partners to boost their collaboration in related activities in the region and the country. The meetings’ contents, which have been suggested by ASEAN specialised groups, include sustainable financing for HIV/AIDS response in ASEAN member states, prevention against new emerging infectious diseases, universal health insurance coverage in the informal sector and policy response for aging.
The meeting is an opportunity for Viet Nam to elevate its position and prestige in the region and affirm its role in the association, particularly in medical sector, contributing to promoting the country’s image and sharing the achievements in protecting, caring and improving people’s health with international friends.
It will also help promote international cooperation in heath care and join efforts to build the ASEAN community which centres on the people.
