Vietnam, Thailand eye further co-operation

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-ocha have compared notes on measures to step up co-operation between the two nations.

At their meeting in Bangkok on December 20 during PM Dung’s visit to attend the 5th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit, the two leaders expressed their delight at the fruitful development of the friendly neighbourliness and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.

They agreed to effectively implement agreements reached during Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha’s official visit to Vietnam last November, including the organisation of the third joint cabinet meeting and the enhancement of bilateral co-operation in all spheres.

Host and guest showed their determination to strengthen economic-trade and investment collaboration, particularly in the fields of rice and rubber.

The two sides will also increase waterway and road transport connectivity, including the opening of bus routes to boost their cultural exchanges and tourism development.

They agreed to join hands in raising awareness of fishermen and handling violations committed by ships and fishermen in line with international law, and the flourishing friendship between the two countries, and in the spirit of humanity.

The leaders agreed to continue fostering co-operation at regional and international forums.

The Thai PM informed his guest that Thailand is implementing registration procedures for Vietnamese guest workers in the country while considering the signing of an agreement on labour co-operation with Vietnam.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung stressed the importance of enhanced co-operation in using water resources of the Mekong River in an effective and sustainable manner, for the interests of residents living along the river as well as for regional co-operation and development.
