The host and guest agreed that 2015 is an important milestone from which the two countries can continue the trust-building process towards a better future relationship.
This year the two countries are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of their diplomatic relations.
They appreciated the growing comprehensive partnership between the two countries, especially defence co-operation, which is growing more and more effective.
The two sides also expressed their wish to work together to implement contents from the Memorandum on Bilateral Defence Co-operation, which was signed in 2011.
They also touched on other co-operation activities such as addressing post-war outcomes.
Michael Michalak was the US Ambassador to Vietnam between August 2007 and February 2011.
