Q: Could you please tell me your assessment of the achievements of our relationship in the last 40 years?
A: I think we have seen a very interesting history of our diplomatic relations and also of our relations in general and especially since 2011 since we have agreed to be strategic partners, our relationship has really become a lot more dynamic and we have a very intensive political dialogue, we have a lot of German businesses in Vietnam and more and more Vietnamese businesses in Germany and we have very good cultural relations.
I think all in all that our relationship between Vietnam and Germany has a high potential and is developing in a positive direction. We are here now in the new building of the National Assembly of Vietnam and here you can very well see a lot of German influence because it has been designed by a German architecture company which has created, planned and built the whole building.
There is a lot of German technology in this building for instance the sound system of the big plenary room, and also the ceilings and many things here come from Germany. I would like to congratulate Vietnam on this wonderful new building. And at the same time, I am very proud that we could help create this beautiful building.
Q: What do you think about the potential in the near future?
A. We have very good future and we already see it. We had a very intensive 2014 because we had the prime minister of Vietnam in Germany and we had in November a big conference Asia Pacific conference of German businesses in HCMC.
And HCMC and Vietnam presented itself as a very reliable and competent partner of Germany. And I think a lot of German businesspeople were inspired by this and we hope that in the future we will see more German investment here.
Of course always given that the conditions of investment are right. So I think we do have a very bright future, we have big potential, and we also have big projects like as the Vietnam - German university, and now we have started building the German house in HCMC, which is going to be a symbol of German-Vietnamese friendship with lots of German companies in that building and I think we can see it growing and we can also see our relationship growing ever closer.
Q: Which sectors will have the highest priorities for co-operation?
A. I think we do have a lot of potential in business still, economic co-operation will intensify. We will also see a lot of projects in education like for instance vocational training, where Germany has created some opportunities for young Vietnamese students to have a proper vocational training in German companies.
We do hope that this system of dual education will come to Vietnam. So, education, economic co-operation and also co-operation in the fields of in the protection of environment, energy, all these are very important topics for the development of Vietnam.
And there Germany has something to offer. Vietnam would like to co-operate with us so I think we will see an intensification of our relations in these sectors especially. Thank you very much and I wish all Vietnamese a wonderful Tet holiday season and all the best for our future.
Thank you very much.
