Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan made the statement at a celebration of the Lao traditional New Year festival Boun Pimai hosted by the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Hanoi on April 10. The function was also attended by Politburo member and permanent member of the Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee's Secretariat Le Hong Anh, Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, and Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Vice President Doan extended her best wishes to leaders of the Lao Party and State and people for a happy, prosperous and successful New Year, wishing the Vietnam-Laos traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation would further develop.

Despite complicated changes in the region and the world’s situation, Vietnam-Laos bilateral co-operation has continuously made significant achievements, she stressed.

The political ties between the two nations have been robustly developed, and co-operation in such fields of defence, security, economics and trade, culture, education and training have also seen positive results, contributing to fostering the comprehensive co-operation between the two sides, she added.

She expressed her belief that Laos would see more fruitful results in socio-economic development in the New Year.

For his part, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Somphone Sichaleune highly appreciated the presence of high-ranking leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State at the ceremony, which illustrated the brotherhood and special relations between the Lao and Vietnamese people.

He expressed his thanks for Vietnam’s significant and valuable support to Laos’ national struggle for liberation in the past, and in the country’s construction and defence at present.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung visited the Lao Embassy on April 9 to wish the Ambassador and his wife, as well as the embassy’s officers and staff members, a New Year full of happiness and success.
