Prime Minister receives IMF Deputy Managing Director

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasised Vietnam’s hope for increased co-operation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) while receiving IMF Deputy Managing Director Mitsuhiro Furusawa in Hanoi on June 12.

PM Dung said the financial group has long backed Vietnam, particularly in policy consultation and technical support.

Vietnam aims for a rapid and sustainable socio-economic growth with stable macro-economics, improved social welfare and reduced poverty. In an effort towards the attainment of these goals, the Vietnamese government has been making efforts to carry out its defined key policies, focusing on completing market economy institutions, accelerating global integration, and economic restructuring, the PM told his guest.

Furusuwa congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic progresses, including fulfilling the United Nations millennium development goals ahead of schedule, sustaining macro-economic stability and improving local livelihoods.

He attributed the results to efforts made by the Government and the people as a whole and expressed his belief that the nation would achieve robust mid-term growth.

Furusuwa commented that Vietnam has a clear and sound vision of socio-economic growth. He proposed the country should take advantage of the current condition to launch the restructuring of its mechanisms, particularly fiscal and credit policies, as well as the bank and state-run sectors.

The IMF Deputy Managing Director spoke highly of the outcomes of joint projects between Vietnam and his organisation and highlighted that the IMF is willing to continue supporting Vietnam, especially with policy consultation, technical assistance and capacity building.
