Women's Union seeks to boost role in int'l community

The Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) on June 17 held a meeting with heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad in the 2015-2018 tenure, seeking their support in promoting the role of the VWU in the international community.

VWU Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa said that the VWU has a history of nearly 85 years with 15 million members. The union has established relations with more than 300 organisations in over 60 countries and territories, focusing on developing co-operation with the ASEAN Confederation of Women's Organisation, Women's International Democratic Federation, and the United Nations among others.

The VWU Chairwoman expected to receive more attention from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly from heads of Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad to boost the role of the union and Vietnamese women in the world.

She hoped that Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad would help the union to obtain more resources and assistance from the international community in support of Vietnamese women.

Vietnamese diplomats abroad praised the VWU for their contributions to Vietnam’s diplomacy, hoping for further co-operation between the VWU and Vietnamese diplomatic agencies abroad.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese Ambassador to China, Dang Minh Khoi affirmed that the Foreign Ministry would propose the government strengthen co-operation and exchanges between the VWU and international groups and promote the role of Vietnamese women to the world through diplomatic activities and international events.
