AP News reported that according to State media, Ngan took the oath of office, vowing to "be completely faithful to the country, people and the Constitution."

Her appointment was widely expected when she was re-elected to the powerful Politburo at the 12th National Party Congress this January.

AFP News also said Veteran lawmaker and senior Communist Party official Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was elected with 95.5 percent of votes after a poll in the country’s 500-strong legislative body. AFP appraised that her appointment means she is the highest ranking female party official.

The Bangkok Post also informed the news that Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was elected as Chairwoman of the NA, making her the first woman to lead the Communist-dominated legislature.

Observers Channel News Asia spoke to describe Ms Ngan as a “deserving” leader with a good reputation.

Xinhua quoted that the NA of Vietnam on Thursday elected Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan as the country's first female house speaker in the capital Hanoi.
