PM receives incoming German Ambassador

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed newly accredited Ambassador from Germany Christian Berger to Hanoi on August 1.

The PM expressed his hope that the two nations will continue to facilitate bilateral co-operation in economics and trade, to raise bilateral trade to US$15-20 billion by 2020.

He called on the German Government to provide more support for Vietnam in education and vocational training, including in the Vietnam – Germany University project.

The PM agreed with the ambassador’s proposal to establish the Vietnam – Germany Chamber of Commerce and Industry, saying that he will assign relevant agencies to work with the German side on the project.

He also pledged to accelerate the implementation of the Metro No. 2 project in Ho Chi Minh City, in which Germany is an investor.

For his part, the Ambassador expressed his sympathy over damage caused by the recent storm Mirinae.

He expressed determination that the two nations will expand their co-operation, affirming that the Government of Germany is willing to co-operate with Vietnam in vocational training.

The Ambassador pledged to do his utmost to tighten relations between the two countries, and support Vietnam in its relations with other countries in the European Union.

He expressed hope that the Vietnam – EU free trade agreement will soon be ratified, thus laying a foundation for bilateral co-operation between Vietnam and Germany and other EU nations.
