As part of his US visit, Politburo member Huynh went on a fact-finding trip to the Omni Parker House Hotel in Boston where President Ho Chi Minh worked as a baker while he was seeking ways to save the nation from 1912-1913.
While in Boston, the Politburo member also visited Harvard University, a long-standing leading educational institution in the US.
At the university, he held a working session with its managing board to discuss cooperation on education and training between Vietnam and the US. He also heard reports presented by its professors on the situation in Southeast Asia as well as the relations between the US and the region.
During his tour of San Francisco, Politburo member Huynh met with the city’s mayor and representatives of the Vietnamese community in California and visited the Vietnamese Consulate General in the city.
At a meeting with US war veterans who once fought during the war in Vietnam, he briefed them on the country’s changes over the past 40 years, as well as the dynamic and pragmatic development of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.
He hailed the veterans for their contributions to the normalisation of the relationship and called on them to contribute more to the friendship in the spirit of “putting the past behind, overcoming differences, promoting similarities and looking towards the future.”
