According to deputy head of the committee, Son Minh Thang, over the past six months, socio-economic development, cultural activities, security and defence in the region have been maintained.

However, concerning issues have been witnessed in the region, including coastal erosion in localities which has not yet been stabilised and a drop in price of some agricultural products which have posed a number of difficulties to local farmers.

In addition, the progress of construction works has been slow as this year’s rainy season came earlier than usual.

Speaking at the session, Vice President Thinh highly appreciated outcomes seen in all fields in the region as well as the performance of the steering committee since the beginning of this year.

She asked the committee in the coming time to strengthen intra-bloc connection in such fields as education, healthcare, vocational training, social insurance, and care for wounded soldiers and national contributors.

Regarding agriculture, she requested local authorities in the Mekong River Delta to take action to increase the value of their agricultural products such as rice, fruits and vegetables.

The steering committee was also told to attach great care to maintaining social order and security in the region.
