Promoting the potential of aquaculture at the Tien river mouth

ABO - Currently, the coastal districts of Tien Giang province including Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong districts have promoted the potential of aquaculture in the coastal and Tien river mouth, creating valuable agricultural resources for consumption and export, creating jobs and income for local people.

In Tan Phu Dong isle district, farmers have stocked 2,061 hectares, of which mainly brackish and saltwater shrimp farming on an area of 2,052 hectares, in two forms of extensive farming and industrial farming with a few remaining areas for aquaculture freshwater areas. Farmers have harvested nearly 100 tons of products. The district strives to achieve the harvested output of about 20,000 tons of aquaculture products from the market in 2019.

Go Cong Dong district has developed the potential of brackish and saline aquaculture in the direction of diversifying forms of farming and objects of adaptation to climate change and bringing about great socio-economic efficiency. In particular, in addition to shrimp, the local also pays attention to raising clams and fish farming, etc...

According to the report of the Go Cong Dong district Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first quarter of 2019, farmers raised 105 hectares of shrimp and simultaneously the practice of stocking clam farming on a total area of 2,200 hectares of Tan Thanh coastal alluvial ground. Shrimp and clam farming are traditional farming objects of Go Cong Dong coastal district.

Currently, Go Cong Dong and Tan Phu Dong districts are two key brackish and saline aquaculture areas of Tien Giang province. Thanks to promoting this important economic potential, life of many farmer households are better, agriculture and rural areas are innovating, helping many communes to soon complete the criteria and launch new rural communes.
