Tien Giang has 2,600 street food businesses

ABO – On December 20, Director of Tien Giang Department of Health Tran Thanh Thao chaired a workshop on food safety in 2019.

At the workshop, the Sub-Department of Food Safety and Hygiene reported the situation of street food management in the province, updating legal documents related to food safety. Accordingly, there are currently about 2,600 street food businesses in the province, and over 40 pilot models have been developed each year.

Over the past time, the province has implemented the task of ensuring food safety for street foods in order to improve and gradually control food safety conditions for street food business, minimizing food poisoning and diseases as well as developing point models of street food in the area.

In 2019, 90.88 percent of facilities received food safety training, 92.34 percent of facilities received health checkups (higher than in 2018, 90.2 percent and 79.2 percent respectively), 11/11 districts, towns and cities all built a pilot model. The street food businesses in the model, that checked the hygiene, training and health check, were higher than the same period in 2018.

Regarding inspection of food safety assurance for street food business, 99.69 percent of business establishments were inspected, reached 97.99 percent meeting hygiene. Regarding food safety conditions, there were over 80 percent reaching 9 criteria, the lowest criterion was the record of food origin (53.81 percent), higher than the same period in 2018; 85.5 percent of establishments have been quickly tested for food safety, an increase of 22.91 percent over the same period in 2018, etc ...

At the workshop, representatives of districts, city, towns and street food dealers in Tan Huong Industrial Park presented contents such as the management of street vendors and street food; ensuring food safety on street food in Tan Huong Industrial Park; building a pilot model of street food; advantages and disadvantages of street food dealers.

Director of Department of Health Tran Thanh Thao responded specifically to the recommendations and proposals of the delegates. He noted all ideals and reported to the higher level in order to give specific responses to the participants.
