Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement at the opening ceremony for the 2017-2018 academic year of the National Defence Academy, in Hanoi, on September 13.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Phuc emphasised that the Party and State always identify defence and security as a key and constant task of the entire Party, people and army.

He asked the academy to continue innovating the education and training contents and programmes suitable for objectives of combat, as well as the practical methods of conducting wars in the modern world.

It is essential to further enhance the review of practice and scientific research to effectively serve the training tasks of the academy and the entire army, he added.

He stated that the academy should be able to predict the conspiracies and tricks of hostile forces as well as study in depth measures to defeat all conspiracies, "peaceful evolution" activities and subversive riots.

He asked the National Defence Academy to expand and improve the efficiency of their cooperation with defence and military academies and universities around the world.

The Government leader noted that the academy needs to focus on training and retraining high-level military officials for Laos and Cambodia, in addition to opening training classes of multinational defense officials.

He emphasised the necessity of modernising and improving the quality of infrastructure and equipment for teaching and learning, as well as caring for both the material and spiritual lives of officials, institutors, employees and soldiers at the academy.

The PM expressed his hope that the students would thoroughly grasp the political responsibility assigned by the Party, State, army and the people, as well as uphold the high determination and spirit of self-training, whilst proactively and actively contributing their ideas to the Party, State, Ministry of Defence and the academy on the military and defense guidelines and policies.
