Eternal flame of revolutionary spirit

ABO/NDO – The autumn in 1945 forever marked a brilliant milestone in n the history of national construction and defence of Vietnam.

Under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnamese people rose up in the great August Revolution, throwing off the yoke of colonialism and feudalism to seize power and establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first state for farmers and workers in Southeast Asia.

The successful August Revolution in 1945 was the first great victory of Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, opening up a great turning point in the country’s history. Thence, the nation entered a new era of independence and socialism in which people are the owners of their country, mastering their destiny and uniting for a prosperous and happy life.

The August Revolution is not only a great revolution of Vietnamese people but also an event of era stature with profound international significance, strongly encouraging the spirit and determination of colonised and oppressed people around the world in their struggles for independence, democracy and social progress. The victory was the crystallisation of the traditional passionate patriotism and indomitable spirit of Vietnamese people with their great wisdom as well as a testament to the sound choice of a nation over many decades of searching for a way to save the country.

Over the past 76 years since the successful August Revolution, Vietnamese revolution has gone through many stages and turning points and overcome many great challenges to gain great victories, bringing the country to a new height. The spirit of the August Revolution has always urged Vietnamese people to resiliently overcome all difficulties and hardships to miracles in the Ho Chi Minh era. During the cause of national renewal and development, the fire of the August Revolution continued to raise the will and power of the whole people to be steadfast in the chosen goal and path, firmly defending the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country while being determined to carry out the Doi Moi (Renewal) cause initiated and led by the Party towards great achievements of historical significance.

Never before has our country had the fortune, potential, and international position and prestige that it does today. Vietnamese people are extremely proud and grateful for the significant merits of President Ho Chi Minh, a great teacher of Vietnamese revolution, the hero of national liberation and the genius leader of the Party and people. Vietnamese people also deeply engrave on our minds the sacrifices of millions of heroes, fallen soldiers and elite persons who devoted their whole lives to the independence and freedom for the nation and the happiness for its people. Lessons from the success of August Revolution will forever be a valuable experience of the Party and people during their journey to socialism.

The entire Party, people and army are actively implementing the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress. The Congress marked an important milestone in a new development phase through the setting of directions, tasks and general goals for not only the immediate years but also the following stages, striving to become a developed country with high income by 2045 when the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) will be celebrated. The Party's vision represented the will and aspiration to rise up of the whole nation.

Upholding the spirit of August Revolution and continuing to creatively apply and develop valuable lessons and experience, the entire Party, people and army will unite, make greater efforts, and be determined to successfully fulfill the goals and tasks set by the Congress as well as enhance the comprehensive and synchronous renewal process of the nation.

Following the past spirit, Vietnamese people are striving to achieve feats of arms in the new revolutionary period, bringing the country forward with quick and steady steps and turning the aspirations of development into reality towards the goal of building a more powerful Vietnam.
