Deputy PM reviews enrolment and training of pedagogical faculty

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam hosted a meeting on August 17 to review the enrolment and training of the pedagogical faculty at colleges and universities.

According to a report released by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), approximately 80% of the students at teacher training institutions, who graduated in 2015 and 2016, were able to find a job, lower than the general rate of 86% of the students in all education facilities.

The statistics also show a lack of nearly 45,060 teachers in all education levels across the country.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam pointed out that the pedagogical faculty required the lowest pass marks in the recent university entrance exam, which is a result of the fact that students who graduate from teaching schools are unable to find jobs, while, at the same time, teachers have received inappropriate compensation and benefits package.

He asked the MOET to work closely with localities, and the relevant ministries and sectors, to conduct a thorough evaluation on the human resources working in pedagogy, in detailed categories of education levels and subjects, throughout each city and province.

It will help to improve the MOET’s understanding of the supply and demand in the human resource market, thereby improving their training quality while avoiding any wastefulness in pedagogical staff, he said.

The Government official also ordered for the enhancement of the quality of training for teachers in the country, as low-quality input into teacher training institutions would result in low-quality output.

He also suggested that the MOET pilots flexible programmes and regulations on allowing students from teaching schools to try other jobs which have a high demand of human resources, such as information technology and tourism, in order to provide them with more job opportunities.
