The project for development of durian tree up to 2025 approved

ABO - The Tien Giang provincial People's Committee has just issued Decision No.3711/QD-UBND approving the project for development of durian tree to 2025.

According to Decision No.3711/QD-UBND, Tien Giang province will develop durian tree in a centralized, safe and sustainable manner, investing in intensive cultivation with high productivity, product quality and economic efficiency, improving the quality of exports and domestic consumption, creating jobs and increasing incomes for durian farmers, increasing export value, promoting the restructuring of the agricultural sector and the economic structure of the localities.

In ddition, the province will develop the acreage of durian tree till 2020 to around 13,000 - 13,800 hectares and reach about 14,000-16,000 hectares by 2025; the yield will stable at 24.6 tons/hecta; to produce between 246,000 and 260,000 tons by 2020 and between 310,000 and 336,000 tons by 2025;

The rate of durian exports will account for 70 - 80% of output, in which the content of processed products is about 20 - 25%; GAP certified production area will reach 15% by 2020 and 30% by 2025; It creates jobs for about 19,000-20,000 agricultural laborers, mainly on-the-job laborers.

The scale of the project implementation is Cai Be district, Cai Lay district, Chau Thanh district and Cai Lay district.

The total investment is 3,426 billion VND. The investment capital includes the State budget capital, loans/credits, corporate capital and people's capital.
