1,658 billion VND invested to change the structure of crops in the eastern districts

In order to overcome the shortage of water and saline intrusion in the dry season, Tien Giang provincial People's Committee has issued Decision No 3064, agreed to implement the project "crop cutting, crop conversion and crop restructuring of the eastern districts” by 2025, with total investment of over 1,658 billion VND.

As reported, 26,147 hectares of rice land in 37 communes, 3 wards and 4 towns of 5 districts and towns have to be cut crops or to change the structure of plants to adapt to the salty. Accordingly, by 2025, the entire Go Cong fresh water area will produce only two rice crops per a year or rotational rice-farm produce. In particular, Tan Phu Dong district no longer produces rice, converting to cultivate crops or fruit trees that are suitable for salty or rotational rice-shrimp, rice-fish.

Accordingly, the province focuses on implementation of irrigation infrastructure planning, technical transport infrastructure, transfer of science and technology, organization suitable production associated with the market, especially deploying support policies for people in the eastern districts to carry out crop cutting or crop restructuring efficiently.
