More than 1,000 Youth Union members, representatives from travel agencies and local people joined the launch, which is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU), and relevant authorities.

Themed “Blue Vietnamese Sea”, the campaign will take place in five central coastal cities and provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Da Nang from May 18-26, in the aim of raising public awareness of environmental protection and coping with climate change.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Dang Thi Bich Lien, expressed her hope that the activity would receive a warm response from many other localities across the country, especially from coastal locals, by organising practical activities to clean beaches and protect the sea, helping to protect the environment and allow for sustainable tourism development.

The Deputy Minister also stated that her ministry would continue to collaborate with other concerned units, localities and travel enterprises to strengthen State management over environmental protection and increase awareness and responsibility of the community and tourists in preserving and building a civilised, friendly, and clean tourist environment for sustainable tourism development.

Vietnam has huge potential for tourism development, especially in its marine resources, with 28 out of 63 provinces and cities having coast lines, and more than 2,770 islands and a range of long and attractive beaches. Along with that is the system of historical sites and scenic spots along the coast. These natural tourist resources attract about 70% of the international visitors to Vietnam and 50% of domestic visitors each year, bringing about 70% of revenue to the tourism industry.
