The facility, worth more than VND100 billion (US$4.46 million) funded by the Lam Dong Pharmaceutical JSC (Ladophar), will be built on 10,000 square metres and equipped with advanced technologies.

It is the 42nd oriental medicine processing facility established nationwide meeting Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The factory has an annual production capacity of 800 tonnes of herbal pharmaceuticals and 280 tonnes of dried and soft artichoke extract, according to Ladophar General Director Pham Thi Xuan Huong.

The company aims to fully tap potential of artichoke, a typical medicinal plant found in the region which will be used to provide materials for other domestic and international pharmaceutical enterprises, Huong said.

Lam Dong, one of the eight key zones for developing national medicinal plants, is home to a wide variety of special, precious and rare medicinal plants.

The facility is also expected to develop an herbal material area, contributing to preserving the valued sources of medicinal plants.
