Various activities celebrates National Day

A wide range of activities have been held in localities across the nation to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2).

On August 27, Ly Thai To monument in Hoan Kiem District and the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sport organised the fourth Hanoi Open Cycling Tournament 2017. The tournament features the participation of almost 400 athletes from 42 bike clubs of Hanoi, other provinces and cities across the country.

This year’s competition, which includes eight categories, is one of a number of cultural and sporting events to mark the 72nd anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

The sporting event is expected to promote the movement requiring the public to take part in physical activities following the example of Uncle Ho, strengthening the friendly relations between Hanoi and the provinces and cities throughout the country.

On the same day, in Tuy Hoa city, the 27th Phu Yen Newspaper cross-country running tournament 2017 was organised by the Phu Yen Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Phu Yen Newspaper. The event attracts over 200 athletes from 24 teams, who will compete in six categories.

On the evening of August 27, a ceremony held in Hanoi to honour and present scholarships to 50 outstanding students, who are children of AO victims and wounded or fallen soldiers. The event was attended by former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.

The ceremony aims to honour and encourage the students to overcome any difficulties and achieve excellent academic results.

Moc Chau district’s ethnic culture festival will take place from August 31 to September 2, featuring many meaningful traditional activities such as art programmes ; ‘Searching tour guide Moc Chau’ contest; Mong ethnic’s Tha Kenh dance contest; community cultural activities; cuisine competitions; ethnic sports activities, folk games. Especially, this year’s festival will organise the Vietnam-Laos trade and tourism fair with the participation of many businesses from northern Lao provinces.

The festival is expected to offer visitors an opportunity to visit historical sites such as Doi (Bat) Cave, Pha Luong peak and Dai Yem waterfall.
