The event is the first activity in the "Action for food safety" communication programme taking place across the nation in 2017 and 2018.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of MOIT Do Thang Hai said that in addition to the synchronous implementation of the Food Safety Law, attention should be paid to the inspection, examination and promotion of applying advanced measures in food safety management.

The ministry has implemented a range of activities to ensure food safety under the guidelines of the National Strategy for Food Safety during 2011-2020, which states that ensuring food safety is a guarantee of consumers' and the public's health, Hai informed.

He affirmed that, with the role as a State management agency, his ministry will continue to closely coordinate with the relevant ministries and agencies in directing the implementation and inspection of regulations related to food safety at markets and supermarkets, while controlling the sale of counterfeit, substandard or smuggled foodstuffs. Furthermore, it is necessary to promote the implementation of public awareness raising activities on food safety for production units and distribution establishments.

At the launch, hundreds of people signed in response to the campaign, with the participation of celebrities and local people in the capital city. Additionally, the programme’s website and fanpage were also officially launched.

By signing directly or collecting electronic signatures at the website http://antoanthucphamhd.vn, and the facebook fanpage at Hành động vì an toàn thực phẩm, the campaign is expected to attract millions of participants for the health of the whole society.

The organisers also plan to organise many other activities to call for everyone to join hands for food safety. This month, a photo contest will be launched on the theme of "Creativeness with food safety" and another one on "Smart consumers" on the campaign’s website and fanpage. Many mini-games, online games, seminars and parades on a national scale will also be implemented in the near future in order to provide useful information for consumers.
