Tien Giang province's population reaches over 1,764 million

ABO – Tien Giang province’s population has been recorded at over 1,764 million on April 1, 2019, according to the Provincial Population and Housing Census Steering Committee.

The figures were announced at a conference held by the Tien Giang provincial Population and Housing Census Steering Committee on October 8, announcing the preliminary results of the 2019 Provincial Population and Housing Census.

The Tien Giang province's population reached 1,764,185 people, of which the urban population had more than 247 thousand people and in rural areas as over 1.5 million people.

This data reflects the situation and characteristics of the population of the province; in line with the annual population growth rate calculated by the Tien Giang Statistical Office.

The number of households in the province has over 501 thousand households; 95.9% of the population aged 15 years and older can read and write; the percentage of households with unstable and simple houses is 9.9%.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Tran Van Dung highly appreciated the preliminary survey data, solutions and techniques implemented very closely.

In order to use this figure effectively, comrade Tran Van Dung requested that the Tien Giang Statistical Office would preliminary notify the results to the locality if possible; at the same time, sharing this data with the provincial departments.

Research departments and branches have evaluated from this data to give development orientations for each industry, making a common contribution to the construction of the 11th Provincial Party Congress document, etc…

On this occasion, 35 teams and 151 individuals were awarded certificates of merit by the Provincial People's Committee; many collectives and individuals received certificate of merit of the Tien Giang Statistical Office and the People's Committees of districts, city and towns.
