Surveying the situation of erosion of the Go Cong sea dike

ABO - On October 16, the delegation of the General Department of Disaster Prevention under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, led by General Director Tran Quang Hoai surveyed the landslide at the Go Cong sea dyke and the dike system of Bao Dinh river’s north bank (section running through Dao Thanh commune, My Tho city) of Tien Giang province.

Vice Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan with the leaders of the Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development , etc... accompanied the delegation.

the delegation surveyed the landslide situation in the dyke line north of Bao Dinh river (section passing Dao Thanh commune).
The delegation surveys the landslide situation in the dike system of Bao Dinh river’s north bank (section passing Dao Thanh commune).

The situation of coastal erosion in Tan Thanh commune, Go Cong Dong district is currently very serious. The entire protection forest is gone, the waves close to the dyke foot, leading to a high risk of dike break during the monsoon season. In the dike system of Bao Dinh river’s north bank (section passing Dao Thanh commune, My Tho city), many landslides occurred in recent times, including many places where the jaws were swirled deep into the dike body.

Through field surveys, the delegation proposed some solutions to overcome landslides. For Go Cong sea dyke, it is necessary to have wave reduction works to reduce erosion; then continuing to create bases for sedimentation, creating yards and afforestation to ensure the forest belt of 200 - 500 m to sustainably protect the sea dyke.

For the Bao Dinh dike, in the immediate future, it is necessary to continue temporarily strengthening to ensure the traffic for people to travel. In the long term, it is necessary to have solutions to make sure and stable, prevent landslides, creating smooth and convenient flows at meandering river points to ensure safety for dikes and residential areas on the inside.
